Welcome, and thank you for visiting Flourish Counselling with Sarah Child BA (Hons) MBACP (Accred.)

Welcome

Life can be difficult for all of us, at different times, for different reasons. Counselling can provide you with a safe and confidential space to talk through any issues or challenges that you may be experiencing. My aim is to support you in making the changes you need to, to be able to live a happier and more fulfilling life.

I provide counselling to adults, couples, young people age 17+ and trainee counsellors. I also provide clinical supervision to trainee and qualified counsellors.

I offer therapy Face to Face, Online (via Zoom) and by Telephone . I also offer Walk and Talk sessions (weather permitting). Appointments will normally be weekly at a mutually convenient time. Making the commitment to attending a regular weekly appointment does enable our work together to be its most helpful and effective.

Why Counselling and How Can It Help You

I will work with you to help you live a more authentic life (being true to yourself) and move towards your potential. I do this by providing a safe and confidential space, within a supportive relationship, for you to understand the root of your problems and talk through any issues or challenges that you may be experiencing. I will not give advice or offer the answers to your problems but will remain alongside you and help you find your own way forward and find more better ways of coping with issues. The bedrock of my practice is to listen without judgement and unconditionally accept you: many of my clients find this so empowering that it automatically catalyses change.

During the time that we work together I will help you to better understand yourself, in how you think, feel, react and respond. Increasing your self awareness can positively change both how you feel about yourself and others and help improve your relationships. I may invite you to work more creatively with me using various objects like stones, shells and toys. This can often help you to communicate your inner experiences and what you're feeling in a different way.

I understand that the process of seeking counselling can feel daunting so I do my upmost to create an environment where you will feel comfortable and at ease. I offer a free 20 minute consultation via zoom or telephone. This is an opportunity for us to meet remotely to discuss your needs and for me to answer any questions you may have.

FAQ

What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Although the terms counselling and psychotherapy are often used interchangeably, there is a difference between psychotherapy and counselling. Counselling is usually more short-term than therapy. It may be focused around one issue for which you need to gain greater understanding of and ways of coping with. Psychotherapy is more long-term than counselling and focuses on a broader range of issues, the work often includes improving self awareness and understanding our experiences and relationships and how they inform us at a deeper level.

How Many Counselling Sessions Will I Need and How Often?

The number of sessions needed will vary from person to person so this will need depend on your individual needs. I can offer you both long or short term therapy and can adapt how we work to accommodate this. Short term therapy can be beneficial for finding coping strategies, managing lifestyle changes and other minor issues. Long term therapy is more beneficial for deeper rooted issues. I will regularly review how therapy is going with you, usually every 6 sessions, to ensure it is helpful and effective.

I know from my experience of working with clients to date, that my therapeutic approach works best when my clients attend a regular weekly appointment. Therefore, the majority of my clients reserve the same appointment time each week and I hold that space for them. This reflects a commitment both to the process of therapy and a valuing of themselves in prioritising their own needs.

What Happens If I Cannot Attend An Appointment?

If you are unable to attend an appointment I request 48 hours notice, as per my cancellation policy (stated in our signed Counselling Agreement). Therefore, if you did not give the required notice the full appointment fee would be payable unless there is an extreme un-foreseen circumstance preventing you from being able to attend.

Due to my preferred way of working with clients being on the same time and day each week (which enables me to provide the most effective therapy), I am not able to accommodate repeated missed appointments. I do ask that you are willing to make the required commitment of regular attendance from the outset.
